Building emotional resilience when working with animals – a practical guide
Presented by Tamsin Durston
The webinar will examine the risks to the emotional health and wellbeing of the practitioner associated with the provision of pet behaviour counselling, animal rescue work, veterinary practice – whether nurse, vet or receptionist – and dog training class facilitation. Using a human-behaviour-change approach that starts with the self, the webinar will identify the differences, risk factors, triggers and manifestation of compassion fatigue and burnout; as well as investigating commonly contributing mind-traps such as logical fallacies and emotional behaviour conditioning. Focusing on practical application, it will also explore the evidence surrounding various techniques aimed at restoring work-life balance and provide guidance on creating/strengthening healthy coping strategies for the often incredibly emotionally challenging work undertaken by anyone working directly with people and animals.
