Academic Member Application

To apply scroll down to Step 4 to fill in the form, but please read previous steps first.

Step One – Check Eligibility

The Academic Member category is a non-practising category within the APBC.  We recognise these members for their contribution to the field of animal behaviour either through research or their position within a teaching institution or other relevant organisation. We appreciate that some Academic members may still see a small number of behaviour cases/clients on occasion but this is on the understanding that such cases would not fall under the jurisdiction of the APBC nor its complaints procedure. This must be made clear to clients and in any advertising of behavioural services. Furthermore, Academic members cannot take part in the APBC practitioner insurance scheme.

Step Two – Read APBC Code of Practice

All Academic members must abide by the APBC Code of Practice.  Please ensure you have read this and agree to this before proceeding with your application.

Step Three – Digital Proof

To apply for Academic membership you will need a digital copy of the following ready to upload with your application form below;

– Proof of academic position and/or copy of a recent research paper (published in the last 5 years)
– Proof of your higher level qualification or equivalent (e.g. ABTC APEL for CAB)

Please note: we follow UK education guidelines, namely that a lecturer/teacher should hold a relevant qualification that is at least one level higher than the qualification to be attained by their students.  This means that someone teaching at degree level should have an MSc or higher qualification, or if teaching at Further Education level should hold at least a degree, or equivalent.
